Phone lines are billed separately from the plan: each line has its own monthly price and its own renewal day. This page covers how much a line costs, when and how it is charged, and what happens if a renewal goes unpaid. To buy and use a line, see the guide Phone lines: buy one and use it on WhatsApp.

Price

  • The same price on every plan, Free included, and for any quantity. There is no volume discount and no annual billing.
  • The price and the currency are recorded on the line at purchase: every renewal of that line charges that amount, in that currency.
  • A line does not count toward the plan’s number limit. It is not a connected WhatsApp number; it is the landline you activate one on.
  • No limit on lines per workspace. Each purchase takes 1 to 10 numbers.

When each line is charged

  • At purchase, the first month is charged in full, with no proration.
  • Then every month, on the purchase day. Each line has its own cycle, so lines bought on different days renew on different days. The next renewal date shows on every line (renews …) and under Plans → Finance.
  • A day that does not exist next month becomes the last day of the month, and stays that way. A line bought on Jan 31 renews on Feb 28 (or 29), then Mar 28, Apr 28 and so on. Dates are computed in UTC.
  • The charge happens within about an hour after the renewal date, because phone line billing runs every hour.

How it is paid

  1. First, the prepaid wallet balance.
  2. Whatever the balance does not cover goes to the saved card.
  3. If the card part fails, what came out of the wallet goes back to it, and the charge counts as unpaid.
Lines use the same wallet as the plan and the extra numbers. To add balance, the Owner uses Plans → Wallet (or Add balance, on the line notices).
With a saved card, every renewal has somewhere to go when the balance runs out. Without one, Pilot Status warns you when the wallet balance does not cover the renewals of the next 7 days — one notice per renewal date, to the holder and the Owner. With a saved card, this notice is not sent.
Whether or not you have a card, about 48 hours before a renewal the holder and the Owner get one notice for every line renewing in that window, with the date and the total. When something goes wrong after the money moved — a purchase that could not be completed, a renewal charged on a line that was being returned, or a rejected holder verification — the amount goes back as wallet balance, including any part paid by card.

Overdue lines

If a renewal cannot be charged, the line goes down this path: From the first failed charge to losing the number takes about 3 days. Each step happens within about an hour after its deadline, and each one sends a notice to the holder and to the Owner. A reminder also goes out the day before a line is suspended. To settle, add balance (or save a card) and:
  • click Pay for all, on the notice at the top of the lines list, to retry right away the charge of every overdue line in the workspace — or Pay … now / Pay … and reactivate, on a line’s page, to charge that line only;
  • or, with more than one overdue line, use Choose which to keep: the checked lines are charged right away and the unchecked ones are returned right away.
If you do nothing, the next automatic retry (every 6 hours) already uses the balance or card you added. Paying late keeps the renewal date. When the charge finally goes through — even on a suspended line — it goes back to Active, and the new period counts from the original renewal date, not from the payment day.
A return cannot be undone. The number is no longer yours, and there is no guarantee you can buy the same number back. The line’s code history and call recordings are deleted. The WhatsApp account activated on it stays tied to the number: whoever rents it next can request a verification code and take over the account.

Cancellation and refunds

  • Line in good standing (Cancel line): no refund. The line keeps working until the end of the month already paid, is not renewed and, on that day, the number is returned. Until then, Undo cancellation reverts it.
  • Overdue line (Return number): there is no paid period left, so the number is returned right away, and nothing else is charged for it.
  • Lines bought while the holder verification was under review, if it is rejected: they keep working for 3 days after the rejection, without renewing; then they go back to the carrier, and everything paid for them — purchase and renewals, card portions included — returns as wallet balance. The rejection notice gives the date and the amount.
Only the Owner can cancel, undo a cancellation, or return a line.

Where to see the charges

Under Plans, in the sidebar:
  • Finance → Phone line charges — the wallet balance, whether it covers the renewals of the next 7 days, each line’s next renewal with who will pay it (Wallet pays, Saved card pays, Wallet + card or Balance too low), and the Charge history: period, amount, how much came from the wallet and from the card, status (Paid, Failed, Pending, Refunded) and, for a failed charge, the reason, the date of the next attempt and, when there was more than one, the number of attempts. A refunded charge says why — for example, Holder verification rejected; the amount went back to the wallet.
  • Finance → Consolidated spend — the total spent per month, with Phone lines broken out from the other products.
  • Finance → Receipts and invoices — one row per paid charge, with the Payment proof (which records the payment but is not a tax invoice) and, when a card was involved, the Stripe invoice or receipt.
  • Wallet → Statement — the All, WhatsApp and Phone lines buttons filter by product. The purchase shows up as Purchase, and the renewals as Monthly fee.
  • History — the lines’ billing events: Line purchased, Line monthly fee paid, Line charge failed, Line monthly fee refunded, Line suspended for non-payment, Line reactivated, Line returned and Line canceled, each with the line’s name and number.

Through the API

The public API exposes each line’s price, currency and currentPeriodEnd, and the phone_line.renewed, phone_line.payment_failed, phone_line.suspended and phone_line.returned events — the last one with a reason (unpaid, canceled_by_customer or verification_rejected). Pay for all and Choose which to keep exist only in the dashboard. See the Phone Lines API overview and Phone line webhooks.
